About our Speaker, Mohy Omer
Mohy Omer is a Sudanese American who moved to the States after living in the world’s largest refugee camp in Kenya. Mr. Omer has more than 8 years of work experience in the field of international development, US foreign policy , and diplomacy. Currently, he is the Policy Analyst for East and Southern Africa at the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). Prior to USCIRF, Mr. Omer worked at the National Democratic Institute (NDI) as a program officer for the Middle East and North Africa team. Prior to that, Mr. Omer worked for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) where he coordinated the Youth Leaders Program. Before joining USIP, Mr. Omer worked for U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp in Fargo, ND as well as in Washington DC. While working for the Senator he concentrated on researching and writing on foreign affairs, national security, and defense issues.
Mr. Omer is also the founder of the Sudan Task Force in Washington DC, an initiative aimed at articulating to the U.S. government and non-governmental actors the importance of greater U.S. involvement in Sudan. Mr. Omer holds a B.S. in Political Science from North Dakota State University and M.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University.
